Fall 2018: Tiffany Harvey

Civic Engagement has honored Tiffany Harvey as the Volunteer of the Semester for Fall 2018. Tiffany is senior at Georgia State majoring in psychology. Throughout her undergrad years, she has had numerous volunteer experiences that have positively impacted her life. The experience that has been the most significant is her internship at Cool Girls. Cool Girls is an organization that caters to elementary to high school girls in the Atlanta area. The organization provides the girls with mentors, after-school programs and numerous field trips. For the last two years, Tiffany has volunteered at McNair Middle School where she assisted the instructor through weekly modules on topics such as bullying, puberty and anger management. There is never a dull moment and the meetings are always overflowing with laughter.

During her time at Cool Girls, Tiffany is proud to say that she has had the honor of impacting the lives of a handful of girls that have confided in her on a personal level. These girls have expressed their private struggles, often speaking of issues that they have never spoken of before. In those moments, Tiffany had an opportunity to steer the girls in the path that is most beneficial for their lives. Those opportunities allowed Tiffany the chance to take part in the molding of young women which provided her a sense of pride and nostalgia.

All in all, Tiffany’s experiences with the Cool Girls organization impacted her life for the better. She hopes to one day take the tools that she has learned at McNair into a career as a middle school counselor. Tiffany encourages anyone that is interested in volunteering to call or email the volunteer coordinator at an organization that fits their interest. They will be glad to hear from you. Finally, if you are looking for a fantastic volunteer home, the Cool Girls family is always delighted to have new enthusiastic members!
