March 2019: Naomi Cargill
Civic Engagement has honored Naomi Cargill as the Volunteer of the Month for March 2019. Naomi is a junior at Georgia State University majoring in Neuroscience. Naomi has been an avid volunteer since sophomore year in high school and is only getting started as she knows it will enrich her future as an upcoming medical student.
Some areas of service Naomi has found a passion for include income inequality, Habitat for Humanity, tutoring, elderly care and entertainment, and language development in schools. She has also had the opportunity to work with various populations such as young and adolescent children, the elderly, homeless population, and communities in Costa Rica which serving with Panther Breakaway. She had the opportunity to impact these communities and people through enhancing their knowledge of cultures foreign to them, connecting them with opportunities to better themselves, simply changing their moods through laughter or good conversation.
Overall, Naomi feels that her involvement has impacted her tremendously in many areas, but mostly her self-development as a young professional. The volunteer opportunities have allowed for experiences to critically analyze my privileges and how I can best use them for the betterment of others. These experiences have encouraged me to think about how I can change my thought patterns and take different approaches to foreign situations. Congratulations and thank you Namoi, we are excited to see what the future holds for you!
