November 2018: Cedric Jackson

Civic Engagement has honored Cedric Jackson as the Volunteer of the Month for November 2018. Cedric is a junior at Georgia State University majoring in Theater with a minor in Film and Video. Cedric is an Atlanta native with years of experience of serving in the community. Cedric currently serves in various student organizations, such as the NAACP (president), Red Cross Club (treasurer), Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, Collegiate 100 and Spotlight Programs Board.

Cedric mentors local high school students through the NAACP. The organization also had a book drive at Georgia State University where students donated books to be distributed to a local after school programs. Members of Alpha Phi Omega bought food from a local grocery store, cooked on campus and fed homeless individuals surrounding the Georgia State University campus. The organization spearheaded a coat drive where they sorted donations and handed them out to women, men and children near campus. Spotlight Programs Board planted gardens in the Summerfield area for their Day of Service. Through Collegiate 100, Cedric mentors local high school students at BEST Academy every Friday, where the focus is on preparing students to graduate.

Cedric shared that he has been volunteering all of his life and it began during his childhood at Fortress Baptist Church. During his weekly meet up with friends, Cedric will brainstorm on opportunities on how to give back to the community. Cedric shared that he truly has been blessed and feels obligated to give back.
