Georgia State University strives to ready students for professional pursuits, educates future leaders and prepares citizens for lifelong learning. As part of the preparation, Civic Engagement would like to introduce you to Panthers VOTE, a university-wide voter education and registration initiative.

The Civic Engagement office, in collaboration with Government and Community Affairs, Political Science and History departments, Student Government Association, University Housing, Andrew Goodman Foundation and other key chartered student organizations, is pleased to announce that it has launched a partnership with TurboVote, a non-profit, non-partisan organization that simplifies voter registration and educates participants in the voting process.

In September 2010, TurboVote was launched by Democracy Works. TurboVote is here to improve the voting experience for voters and election officials.

TurboVote facilitates the voting process by:

  • Filling out voter registration forms (and paper copies sent to your door for signatures and mailing)
  • Sending reminders via email or text messages about upcoming elections, debates, polling places and more
  • If needed, get assistance with acquiring absentee ballots

In addition to facilitating the voting process, TurboVote sponsors the TurboVote Challenge. The challenge: “Help America reach 80 percent voter turnout.” By partnering with major corporates, various nonprofits and universities, TurboVote is encouraging a spirit of nonpartisan collaboration to increase voter participation and rally for democracy.

18 to 29 year olds are one of the underrepresented voter groups in the United States. By introducing Panthers VOTE to Georgia State University, the goal of the Civic Engagement office is to increase voter education, registration and turnout. Civic Engagement wants to challenge this static by creating a campus culture that will influence students, alumni, faculty and staff of Georgia State University to Make a Statement in their community through both political and non-political actions.

Register today because your vote counts.
