Students who are interested in serving as part of the Panther Breakaway leadership team or being a site leader for 2016-2017 trips can download applications for both the Domestic Site Leader Application 2016-2017 and the International Panther Breakaway Site Leader positions. Panther Breakaway is part of the national alternative breaks program, which organizes community service trips for college students during their winter, spring and summer breaks. Civic Engagement offers both international and domestic trips.
Students who are looking for a meaningful way to spend winter or spring break can join Civic Engagement and other students with a heart for service for a week of volunteer activities in cities across the southeast United States. The winter break trips from December 14-December 18, 2016 include hunger and homelessness in Atlanta, race relations in Birmingham, Alabama and immigration in Jacksonville, Florida. The spring break trips from March 12-18, 2017 include urban education in New Orleans, access to justice in Atlanta, animal rights in Asheville, North Carolina, women’s issues in Columbia, South Carolina and disaster relief in a location to be determined.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. The costs of the domestic trips are $300 for the winter trips and $350 for the spring trips, with each trip cost including all transportation, lodging and meals. Civic Engagement is currently accepting applications for site leaders for 2016-2017. Site leaders receive a $50 discount on the price of their trip. Students, faculty and staff to register and pay for Panther Breakaway alternative break trips online through Marketplace.
