Civic Engagement is Now Hiring!
Want to get paid to help others and give back to the community? Civic Engagement is hiring Student Assistants for next year. Send your resume to Jennifer Bodnar, along with your availability. Our office is open 8:30 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. Monday – Friday. Most projects occur within that time frame but occasional night and weekend projects are required. You must have received, or be eligible to receive, Federal Work Study.
Why should you be interested in working for the office of Civic Engagement? Take it from a current student assistant, working here is amazing. You gain so much experience and so much more beyond the job title of student assistant. If I had to break down why you should apply into three categories they would be the people, the opportunities and the leadership.
Working here is not like working in your regular office; we build actual friendships and relationships. We are not just coworkers; we are family. Our supervisors offer guidance, and they also give great advice like parents would. Also our coworkers are like the brothers and sisters giving you the extra push you need.
Since working with Civic Engagement, I have been introduced to so many people and have worked with a lot of different companies; we call these groups community partners. Though we initially set up service between our offices, after you have volunteered so many times, a job offer is not too far behind. We as volunteers offer our service, but what you get in return is worth more.
Lastly, there’s the leadership. If you are looking to develop or enhance your leadership skills, then this position is just for you. There aren’t just student assistants in our office; every person has a specific title and project that they lead throughout the year. Whether you are leading the themed coffee talks, service projects, promoting our events or are the face of one our student organizations, you are going to gain great leadership experience.
